The game
What is The Big Dog House?
The Big Dog House was released on , and the trade press called it the eighth game in the series. It brings the dogs home after years of costumes: the original Rottweiler, Shih Tzu, Pug and Dachshund, the white picket fence, the lamp posts and the purple house next door, now with a big barn-style roof over the reels and a little blue bird on top.
The grid is the original 5×3 with 20 lines, and the paytable is the 2019 one, symbol for symbol. What's new is size and choice. The dog house wild can now land as a normal symbol, as an expanded wild covering a whole reel, or as a colossal 3×3 wild covering all three middle reels. And free spins come in four flavours depending on which Bonus paws start them.

The values match the original exactly. There are three Bonus paws, all on reels 1, 3 and 5: the red Bonus, the green Biggie Bonus and the blue Ghost Out Bonus. Three red paws start normal free spins; a green or blue paw that's part of a three-paw trigger adds its modifier to the round.

Base game
Normal, expanded and colossal wilds
The wild still lives on reels 2, 3 and 4 only, and on every spin each wild gets a random 2x or 3x multiplier. Several wilds on one line add their multipliers. The difference is size:
- Normal (1×1): one position, like the original.
- Expanded (1×3): a tall dog house covering a whole reel.
- Colossal (3×3): one giant dog house covering reels 2, 3 and 4 completely, so every one of the 20 lines runs through it.
A colossal wild is the base game's jackpot moment: with the middle of the grid wild, any matching symbols on reels 1 and 5 complete five of a kind on several lines at once, all multiplied.

Bonus round
Free spins and ghost wilds
Before the round, the barrels return: green drums in the kennel, turned by the Rottweiler running on a treadmill. Each shows 1, 2 or 3, and the total, 9 to 27, is your number of spins.
In a normal round, every wild is 1×1 and lands on reels 2–4. Each one sticks with its multiplier until the end. Then there's the twist:
- Ghost wilds are icy blue dog houses that only appear on reel 5, only in free spins. They're wild, they carry 2x or 3x, and they don't stick.
- Every time a ghost wild lands, it picks a random sticky wild on screen, of any size, and removes it at the start of the next spin.
So the round is a tug of war: your sticky wilds build up on the middle reels while ghosts try to take them away. The free spins can't be retriggered.

Modifiers
Biggie and Ghost Out free spins
The green and blue paws change the round. You can trigger them naturally or buy them:
Biggie
Green Biggie Bonus · buy 200x
- Wilds on reels 2–4 only land as 1×3 expanded or 3×3 colossal wilds.
- Ghost wilds still appear on reel 5.
Bigger wilds, still a risk of losing them.
Ghost Out
Blue Ghost Out Bonus · buy 200x
- No ghost wilds on reel 5.
- Wilds are the normal 1×1 size.
Small wilds, but every one is safe.
Biggie Ghost Out
Both paws · buy 500x
- Only expanded and colossal wilds.
- No ghost wilds at all.
The best version of the round, at the highest price.

Options
Buys, ante bets and super spins
Three buttons on the left of the reels open twelve ways to change the game. Prices below are in multiples of your normal total bet.
Bonus buys
- Free spins: 100x
- Biggie free spins: 200x
- Ghost Out free spins: 200x
- Biggie Ghost Out free spins: 500x
Ante bets (free spins stay on)
- Ante 1, 2x bet: Biggie free spins 24 times more likely.
- Ante 2, 2x bet: Ghost Out free spins 24 times more likely.
- Ante 3, 4x bet: any free spins 6 times more likely.
- Ante 4, 6x bet: Biggie Ghost Out free spins 170 times more likely.
Super spins (free spins switched off)
- Super 1, 5x bet: at least one expanded wild every spin.
- Super 2, 50x bet: at least one wild of any size every spin.
- Super 3, 100x bet: a 50% chance of a colossal wild every spin.
- Super 4, 200x bet: a colossal wild guaranteed every spin.
The rules express these as "bet multipliers" against 20x for normal play, which is why the maximum bet with special bets reaches $48,000: $240 × 200.

Super spins cost a fortune. Super 4 at a $1 base bet costs $200 per spin. The guaranteed colossal wild is exciting, but the RTP is no better than normal play: 96.54% for Super 4 against 96.53% base. Treat these as high-roller options, not shortcuts.
Tested
Our Biggie round
We bought Biggie free spins for 200x ($400 in demo credits at a $2.00 bet) to see the big wilds and the ghosts at work.
- The green barrels counted to 14, and a last-moment barrel bumped it to 15 Biggie free spins.
- The scene switched to night under a full moon. Early on, a 2x expanded wild filled reel 3.
- On the same spin a ghost wild landed on reel 5, and soon after, the expanded wild was gone.
- A 3x expanded wild then stuck on reel 2, and later it vanished too.
- Going into the last spin we had $23.90. The final spin produced two "Superb" wins and took the total to $122.30.
- The round paid $122.30: 61.2x the bet, about 31% of the 200x price.

Watching a ghost wild delete a freshly landed expanded wild is genuinely painful, and it shows why the Ghost Out modifier exists. If you buy, the 500x Biggie Ghost Out round, with big wilds and no ghosts, is the version that can really take off.
The maths
RTP, volatility and max win
RTP: 96.53%
The rules list 96.53% for normal play, and a separate figure for every option, from 96.43% for the Ghost Out buy to 96.56% for the Biggie Ghost Out buy. The spread is tiny, so choose options for the experience, not for value. The real-money casino we checked and Pragmatic's website both show 96.53%.
Volatility: medium
Rated medium, but the options let you push it much higher: super spins and the 500x buy turn it into a high-stakes game.
Max win: 15,000x
The cap is 15,000x your bet, the second highest in the series after Megaways 1000. If a free spins round reaches it, the round ends at once.

The Big Dog House on your phone
On a phone, the three option buttons, Buy feature, Super bets and Ante bets, line up in a row under the reels, with the spin button on the garden path below. A banner above the reels rotates through the trigger rules. Expanded and colossal wilds look especially good in portrait mode, where the reels fill the screen.
Our take
Pros and cons
What we like
- Expanded and colossal wilds in the base game
- Free spins with real choices: Biggie, Ghost Out or both
- A 15,000x cap on the classic 5×3 grid
- The original back yard and dogs, beautifully redrawn
What we don't
- Ghost wilds can wipe out your best wilds
- Twelve buy and bet options are a lot to take in
- Super spins cost up to 200x per spin
- No retriggers
Bottom line
Our verdict: is The Big Dog House worth playing?
Our score: 8.6/10
Yes. The Big Dog House is what you'd get if you took the original and asked "what if everything were bigger?". Colossal wilds give the base game moments the original never had, and the Biggie and Ghost Out modifiers turn one bonus into four. The 15,000x cap finally gives the 5×3 format real headroom.
The ghost wilds will divide players: they add drama, but losing a fresh expanded wild hurts. And the menu of buys, antes and super spins can tempt you into very expensive spins. Stick to the base game or the 100x buy unless you've budgeted for more.
