Head to head

The Big Dog House vs The Dog House

Seven years after the original, Pragmatic Play went back to the same back yard, the same four dogs and the same paytable, and then made the wilds bigger. Here is what really changed between The Dog House and The Big Dog House, and what our demo runs of both showed.

Short answer

Same dogs, bigger wilds

Pick The Dog House for the clean original: one kind of wild, one kind of bonus, nothing to set up and nothing to buy.

Pick The Big Dog House if you like options. Its wilds can cover a whole reel or three reels at once, the bonus comes in four flavours, and you can buy any of them or change how every spin plays with ante bets and super spins. The cap more than doubles, to 15,000x.

The RTPs are almost identical, 96.51% and 96.53%, and both are rated medium volatility.

What changed

Four things The Big Dog House adds

Expanded and colossal wilds

A wild can land as a single dog house, as a 1×3 that fills a reel, or as a colossal 3×3 that covers reels 2, 3 and 4 at once. A colossal wild turns the three middle reels wild for every one of the 20 lines, so all a line needs is a matching symbol on reel 1.

The ghost wild

Only in free spins, an icy blue wild can land on reel 5. It pays like a wild with 2x or 3x, but each time it lands, one of your sticky wilds is picked at random and leaves before the next spin. It's the first Dog House feature that can take something away from you.

Biggie and Ghost Out

Green and blue bonus paws change the round: Biggie makes every wild an expanded or colossal one, Ghost Out turns the ghost wild off, and the luckiest trigger gets both.

Buys and special bets

Four buys, from 100x for normal free spins to 500x for Biggie Ghost Out; four ante bets that make a chosen bonus more likely; and four super spins, from 5x to 200x a spin, that guarantee wilds but switch off the free spins.

Biggie free spins at night: a tall 2x expanded wild covers reel 3 while an icy blue 2x ghost wild sits on reel 5, with 12 free spins left.
An expanded wild on reel 3 and a ghost wild on reel 5, the two new kinds of wild.

Quick answers

Questions about the two games

Is The Big Dog House a remake of The Dog House?

In look and paytable, yes: same yard, same dogs, same pays. The wilds, the bonus modifiers and the buys are new, so it plays like a new game.

Which one pays more?

Neither in the long run: 96.51% against 96.53%. The Big Dog House can pay more in one round, up to 15,000x against 6,750x.

Do I need the special bets?

No. A normal spin in The Big Dog House works like the original, with bigger wilds. Ante bets and super spins are optional and raise the cost of every spin.

Is the ghost wild bad?

It pays like any wild when it lands, but it removes a sticky wild each time, so long rounds tend to hold fewer wilds. Ghost Out free spins switch it off, at a price.
